D.C. 1 of 3: Through the eyes of a tourist

What do the White House, the Supreme Court, and the Capitol have in common? Well, they're each the seat of a branch of the U.S. Federal Government, they're each a white building consisting of some combination of columns and maybe domes, and they're each freakin' huge.

The Supreme Court has the best columns of the bunch. The entrance way is quite obviously designed to imitate some of the great Roman and Greek structures.

Congress in November. Seems like the winds of change have blown some of the leaves off the trees. I wonder if those winds have been up to anything else these days? hmmmm...

The national mall is the central part of Washington, where you'll find the government buildings, the major monuments, and the Smithsonian museums. If you are ever there, spend a full day walking around amongst these colossal structures. Their gleaming white rises high to crane your neck in awe. At the end of the day, as dusk settles in, make sure you visit the Vietnam War Memorial as the last stop. It is made of black stone, and instead of rising high it literally cuts down into the ground. It is certainly not meant to inspire awe, but something more contemplative. What it really makes you wonder is, what will the Iraq war memorial look like one day?
