Monika has been getting into bird-watching over the years, and one of the nice things about this trip to Florida is that it gives an opportunity to see a really wide variety of shore birds and wetland birds. A few photos:

Great Egret

American White Ibis

Osprey

Anhinga (drying off after some underwater fishing)

Little Blue Heron (a particularly inquisitive one)

Tricolored Heron

Wood Stork (endangered)

Great Blue Heron

Sanderlings (running)

Bald Eagle (still working on our identification skills a bit)

Are these professional photos, or did you take them? If you took them, I'm impressed. What camera body and lenses did you use?

Hey Don, the photos are ours (and that's historically accurate for the blog, though some have been taken by friends we've traveled with). Most of the ones in this post were taken by Monika (like the Great Blue Heron, which is my favourite), and some by me.

We have a Canon Rebel T1i, with an EF-S 18-200mm lens.

Ah, that makes sense then. I knew it couldn't have been done with a point and shoot, and I didn't know you had a DSLR setup. The EF-S 18-200 is a fantastic lens, and your photos just prove that.

I recently got a Rebel T2i, but decided to go with the EF-S 15-85mm instead. At the time, I figured it would be enough, but in retrospect, I find it a bit lacking. I'm looking to get a new lens, especially for upcoming trips to Yosemite and such. I'm eyeing the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I look forward to seeing more of Monika's pictures in the future!
